Subject: Desert trip

Hi, I've recently returned from 10 days through
Cunnamulla-Innaminka-Birdsville-Charleville and many points between
(3000k in all). Unfortunately it was a working trip with not much time
for bird hunting but I did add a few to my personal list.

Somewhere at the edge of the Sturt Stony Desert I saw a flock of about
50 birds that I couldn't identify as we drove by. They were brown, about
starling size and shape and wheeled around as a flock much like a bunch
of starlings. Any ideas? (weren't Pratincoles which were abundant).

We camped one night by Shallow Lake about 120k east of Birdsville. The
Whiskered and Gull-billed terns were in plentiful as were Avocets. A
great place to stop by if anyone gets the chance- Natmap shows the turn
in from the main road but is pretty obsure. At night the calls of the
Little Button Quail were a hoot!

Also saw the inland race of the Red-rumped Parrot.

Cheers

Colin Driscoll
