After my post relating the tales of bird territorial warfare around my house
I've been kindly reminded that I failed to provide a location ( its easy to do
!).
Our property is near Pyramid Hill on the northern plains of Victoria.
In the last few days there have been a number of migrants making an appearance,
Small flocks of Silvereye's are getting about, an adult male Rufous Whistler
plus a brown bird....usually just get immature Whistlers here for the winter.
A small flock of Blue-winged Parrots buzzed through one day and a Spiny-cheeked
Honeyeater has appeared and seems quite at home eating Ruby Saltbush berries
and drinking at our dam. I'd expect brief visits from Grey Fantails any time (
before they get booted out by the Honeyeaters ) and Flame Robins usually arrive
at the end of the month or in very early May.
There is a flock of 9 Brolgas in the area and I recently have had a new bird
for my home-list, a Greenshank called as it flew past following the irrigation
channel.
