NSW & ACT TWITCHATHON RESULTS 2006

The NSW & ACT Twitchathon 2006 was the most successful twitch organised
since Birds Australia Southern NSW & ACT Regional Group (now BASNA) began
organising them in 1994. This year 129 participants in 10 Main Race Teams,
18 Champagne Teams and 11 Childrens Teams (Dollarbirds and Little Curlews)
took part. My final estimate of the money raised as at 10/3/07 is $17500,
which includes $400 cash donations towards some of the prizes. Overall I
estimate that there should be about $16500 available to the Australian Bird
Study Association’s Research Fund. We had hoped to raise $15000 to swell the
existing fund to about $40,000, but instead we did much better! There is no
doubt that on this occasion members of the ABSA were active participants,
both as team members and in sponsoring the teams. The organizers are very
grateful for this extra support.

Association, Banrock Station Wines, Birds Australia, Bombah Point Eco
Cottages, Fivebough & Tuckerbil Wetland Trust, Follow That Bird Tours, John
McLennan, Sean Dooley, Steiner Binoculars (Mainstay Marine Pty Ltd) &
Undercliff Winery

It is interesting to note the following details for where there are 2 or
more teams in any clubs or Region. Obviously if you can have two or more
teams in your club the competition is much greater and the money raised
greatly increases!

BASNA - 2 teams $$961 raised

Birding NSW CCG - 2 teams $1186

Canberra - 4 teams $2980

CBOC - 2 teams $4572

Hunter - 6 teams $4063

Murrumbidgee F Nats - 4 teams $594

North Coast Region - 4 teams $642

2007 Twitchathon

By rotation , the funds raised in the 2007 Twitch will go to a Birds
Australia Project. This year the money will be used to provide educational
displays and equipment for the new Australian Bird Education Centre, BASNA’s
new offices in Sydney Olympic Park. It is expected that there will be a
special ceremony within the near future to open the Centre.. More details
later.

2008 Twitchathon

Please be giving some thought as to a possible local project and how the
money might be used that will benefit the conservation of Australia Birds
