This sounds a very much like the situation with Crossbills in Scotland.

Parrot, Scottish and Common Crossbills - they don't interbreed, have different 
calls and different bills but apparently identical DNA.

On this basis the RSPB has recently decided that they will definitely treat the 
Scottish Crossbill as a separate species - this is particularly relevant as it 
is possibly our only British endemic!
