Re the discussion on understanding the meanings of the colour references used when describing bird plumages:

This has been brought up before on this forum (naturally; there is nothing new 
in this universe).

Have a look at this:

Probably won't satisfy everyone.

In that case:
Google "naturalist's color guide".

(Aussies and other English language pedants should note the spelling.)
