I also missed the original message posted to the list.

A possible scenario is the original message was sent to the list
as well as several list members (e.g. via blind carbon copy), and
the message had the "Reply-To:" address set to the list for good
measure.  The original message may have blocked by the list, so
only the replies from the other addressees sent back to the list
are visible the the other list members.
