Thanks to everyone who replied to me with advice. It seems that tripod choice is a matter of personal preference as there was little agreement on basic features, but the opinions were enlightening. I've picked up a used but "as new" Slik 88 black diamond tripod for about $50 posted. From comments I found on birdforum.net, it should have slightly better stability than an a Manfrotto 190, but is outclassed by a Manfrotto 055. So hopefully it should allow me to get so hands on experience with a reasonable tripod, and let me get a better idea of what suits me. thanks again Paul =============================== www.birding-aus.org birding-aus.blogspot.comTo unsubscribe from this mailing list, send the message: unsubscribe (in the body of the message, with no Subject line) to: =============================== |
