Hi Russ,

Your King-Parrot sounds like it has beak and feather disease. The scattered yellow feathers are a symptom of this disease. People who persist in feeding parrots assist in this disease's spread as it is passed in the faeces which can contaminate feeding trays. In the Coutts Crossing area, north coast NSW, we had a number of sightings of infected birds a few years back, They eventually lose their flight feathers and their ability to fly and usually die. Malformation of the bill also often occurs. Some birds (carriers) show some symptoms but do not die.

I am not an expert on avian diseases so others out there may be able to provide more accurate details of the disease but the above is my understanding of the situation.
