While we are on the subject of Purple Swamphens, I wonder if someone could
look at a photo I took in Melbourne last year. I thought this was a Purple
Swamphen from size and colour, but it had a distinct Yellow tip to the beak
and all my books say this only appears on the Dusky Moorhen.
