Hello all, went out to Mitchell Park and Pitt Town this morning and saw just
over 100 species.
Mitchell Park seemed full with Scarlet Honeyeaters this morning they were
calling everywhere. Also plentiful was White-Throated Gerygones. Also good
numbers of Rufous Whistlers, Sacred Kingfishers, Little Lorikeets, Olive-Backed
Orioles, Wonga Pigeons and Yellow Thornbills. Other birds of interest included
Dollarbird, Common Bronzewing, and Weebill.
Pitt Town Lagoon was excellent! Myself and David Mitford found the Ruff
(Interesting bird with a large orange-yellow patch at the base of the bill / on
the face of the bird) together with 3 Wood Sandpipers all feeding together as
well as plenty of Sharp-Tailed Sandpipers. Also of interest was a single
Black-Tailed Native-Hen over 40 Glossy Ibis, and 12 Australian Shelduck. Many
very oblidging Baillons Crakes feeding along the muddy edges as well as the odd
Australian-Spotted Crake. Other interesting birds included Royal Spoonbill,
Crested Shrike-Tit, White-Necked Heron, Pink-Eared Duck, Swamp Harrier.
