This is very sad news. I too was fortuntate enough to be on the receiving
end of much of Barry's kindness. He was always a pleasure to speak to and
one of those people who leaves a smile on your face after every personal
interaction with him. Whilst living in Alice Springs, I, like others here,
enjoyed his warmth on several occasions and found he was always willing to
share his wealth of local information.

Dear Birding-aussers,
I was immensely saddened to learn via Mike Carter's email, that Barry had
died on Saturday. I had exchanged emails with him earlier in the week.
He was generous to a fault. I remember when I flew up to Mt.Isa last year to
see the Kalkadoon Grasswren, and he was the soul of hospitality. I remember
calling him with my mobile, when I had a small party of the grasswrens
circling me, and he came out and photgraphed them with great pleasure.
We have lost a valuable member of the Australian birding community.
