A few people have asked for a report from last night - the Grass owl didn't
show up on Thursday night.

Last night (Fri 18th) it appeared briefly between 5.50 and 5.55 pm and flew low
alongside the embankment track where birders have been standing to see the
bird. It started from somewhere near the sign (I didn't see it this time) and
then flew along the shoreline, still low, then out across the water to a long
narrow island. Fortunately, it returned at 6.25 pm, this time appearing from
the southern end of the track and flying north until out of sight. Everyone in
our group had reasonably good views (it is getting fairly gloomy by 6.25!) but
some people further along the track were unfortunate to miss it both times - a
great pity, as it is such a magnificent bird.

There were 9 people there last night - good luck to those trying over the
weekend. I might try again next week. If you do see it, please post a message
so that those hoping to see it will know that it is still around.
