Letter from today's Australian Financial Review (page 52) from Ian Campbell
(Minister for Environment and Heritage) in reply to article from July 26th
"Campbell ignored advice on wind farm".

Your "Campbell ignored advice on wind farm" mentioned efforts to boost the
recovery of the endangered orange-bellied parrot.

Your readers may be interested to know that the Australian Government has
been investing heavily for many years to assist recovery of the orange-bellied
parrot. As few as 50 breeding pairs are left in existence across the world.

More than $1 million has been invested in this work, with around $80,000 each
year being directed to the Orange-bellied Parrot recovery Program since 1996.
Any suggestion that the decision-making over Bald Hills was capricious or
ill-considered just doesn't stack up when viewed through the prism of this
decade-long commitment.

  Ian Campbell
  Minister for Environment and Heritage
  Canberra, ACT
