Hello birders,

There has been no posting of any further records of the Northern Shoveler mentioned a few days ago on the Mcleay River, Smithtown, NSW. Has anyone else managed to see the bird since then, and, if so, could they please post a message on its whereabouts. I'd be keen for a visit.

Regards,
Michael Wood

Hi Birders,

Today Ken Shingleton reported that at 1100rs an adult male Northern Shoveler in full breeding plumage was seen on the northern bank of the Mcaleay River, on the downstream side of Smithtown, near Kempsey.

The Northern Shoveler appears to like this spot as it has previously been recorded in the lower Macleay River Valley at Jerseyville 7-22 May 2002 and at Seales Rd Swamp, Belmore River in July 2005.
