I have seen and heard captive Satin Bowerbirds mimicking quite often but was not sure if this was a modified behaviour or normal.

One particular individual was in with Lyrebirds and was mimicking the male Lyrebird, including the some of the Lyrebirds own call. I thought this was rather interesting and pondered, who mimicked who first?

Another item of interest was that all birds that I have seen Mimicking have been adult males in their shiny blue/black plummage, no females or males in juvenile plummage.

My morning walk today, on the Balcolyn shoreline on Lake Macquarie, had me
hearing what I thought to be a Whistling Kite. On closer inspection it
proved to be a Satin Bowerbird. I'm not sure if it was a female or an
immature male but the mimicry was quite impressive. What other evidence is
there of mimicry in this species?
