Dear all,

I'm planning on taking a hard-earned birdwatching trip to Georgetown (Queensland) in late July via the Cairns and Atherton regions, and was wondering if anyone could help with the following information, please:

1) Are there any recommended stops/locations along the Gulf Developmental Road between, say, Mareeba and Georgetown?

2) What are the directions to Durham Dam (just outside Georgetown)? I understand that it may be difficult to locate/easy to drive past.

3) Do you need special permission or a key to enter Cumberland Dam and Durham Dam? If so, where is this obtained from?

4) Are there any other good birding locations in the vicinity of Georgetown itself (I'll have a conventional car only)? For example, is it worthwhile travelling a little further down the Gulf Dev Rd past Cumberland Dam?

Any information would be much appreciated.

Thank you very much in advance, and best wishes from Tasmania,

Rob Massom
