Mick,
I agree. The main feature of the skyline in my area (Nth. Tuggerah
Lakes, Central Coast, NSW) are smoke stacks from coal burning power
stations, which despite electrostatic precipitators, continually
exude a plume of pollution. Having lived near wind turbines and
birded around the turbine on Kooragang Is. Newcastle. I would rather
have a wind turbine nearby anytime.
I have followed the worldwide debate on alternative, sustainable
energy sources over the last couple of decades and have been
constantly amazed at how so often, whenever an alternative energy
project is proposed in a location, various organisations waving an
environmentalist banner pops up in opposition to the project. It
would be very interesting to do a bit of forensic accounting on their
sources of funds, as in so many cases the project collapses and the
status quo regns. And who are the beneficiaries? Not that I am making
accusations, I think the facts would do that.
