Oops - I checked my list & old slater book again - I had it keyed out as a
Fiordland Penguin. I remember when I saw it its eyes were red and my slater
guide it appeared to have a blackish eye. But its crest was compact, not as
'flarey' as a Rockhopper, and quite small, and looking at the ranges and
sitings a fiordland is much more likely for Sydney. Also some photos online
the Fiordlands appear to have quite reddish eyes (and red enough for the one
I saw)

I can't recall exactly but I think it was in the middle of the harbour -
somewhere more toward Manly than Circular Quay
