Birded northern India 4 years ago (couldn't get cricket tickets though) and used both the guides mentioned below. Both were excellent in different ways and presumably would also be in Sri Lanka. Worth taking both if you can afford it, as they complement each other in some ways, but either would do.

There are at least two field guides in print that include Sri Lanka:

"Birds of India"
Grimmett, Inskipp & Inskipp

"A Field Guide to the Birds of the Indian Subcontinent"
Krys Kazmierczak

Both books have decent looking plates but that old-fashioned style of
splitting plates, text, and range maps. I haven't birded Sri Lanka, so
I can't say how satisfactory either book would be. A lot better than
nothing at all, I'd guess.
