Hi all
Report is a bit late I know but we had a great few days in Cairns over Christmas visiting family.
Saw about 120 species in the 4 days including 4 new birds for me –
Masked Owl
Bower’s Shrike-Thrush
Cotton Pygmy-Goose
Blue-faced Parrot-Finch

Many many thanks to a few great people up that way – Keith and Lindsay Fisher at Kingfisher Park. Thanks for the Masked Owls!!
Del Richards once again for Bower’s Shrike Thrush and close views of Tooth-billed Bowerbird! Alan Gillanders for a great Nocturnal tour but also for taking me out to see Blue-faced Parrot-Finches, and also the Pygmy geese out the back of his place.
Other notable birds were Noisy Pitta, Buff-breasted Paradise Kingfisher, Spotted Catbird, Chowchilla (making their awesome song!), Tooth-billed bowerbird, 12 species of Honeyeater (I still have trouble with Graceful and Yellow-spotted though), and lots of waders at the Esplanade – although nothing rare that I could pick up. We also saw all 5 species of Egrets while we were up there too.
I missed out again on Fernwren and Lesser Sooty Owl but that just gives me an excuse to go up again!!

Cheers
Dave Stowe

PS I think I saw a Common Myna on New years day!
