There were 2 male Gilbert's Whistlers at Burrendong
Arboretum this past weekend.
68 species were recorded for the weekend. It was
relatively quite birdwise as the breeding season seems to be winding down though
Rufous Songlarks and Rufous Whistlers were still very vocal. Lots of Peaceful
Doves with one very small flimsy nest with 2 eggs located, White-browed and one
group of Grey -crowned Babblers, Diamond Firetails, Spiny-cheeked Honeyeaters
and Brown Treecreepers. There is a healthy population of Speckled Warblers and
are usually quite easy to find.
Burrendong Arboretum is located 25kms from
Wellington overlooking Lake Burrendong in central-western NSW.
Burrendong Arboretum, a Botanic Garden of native
plants, has one of the largest collections of Australian plants in cultivation.
There are some native plants flowering at all times of the year but late winter
to early summer the Arboretum explodes into colour as the Hakeas, Grevilleas and
Wattles are in bloom.
