Just a brief report from the three monthly Birds Australia outing to the
You Yangs Regional Park west of Melbourne.

This outing is organised by Merrilyn Serrong and is largely to undertake
regular weed removal (boxthorn, boneseed) on the Birds Australia 'block'
in the eastern edge of the park but some birding starts and finishes the
day.

Bird highlights were:
- Diamond Firetail (probably breeding)
 - White-winged Trillers in full breeding plumage
- Scarlet Robins calling from high perches
- lots of fresh Painted Button-quail platelets in the BA weed plot
- four species of raptor recorded (Wedge-tailed Eagle, Brown Falcon,
Whistling Kite and Little Eagle)
 - 3 species of frogs (Pobblebonk, Crinia spp. and Plains Froglet) calling
from the little lagoon at the picnic area on the Ring Road (east side of
park)
- Koala at head level near the park entrance

The park is looking a treat at the moment and is well worth a visit. The
Parks Victoria visitors guide is available at:

The Bird Observers Club beginners outing also took place last Saturday (we
met them in the YY carpark) and it would have been a great day for new
birdos.

All sightings to be lodged with the Atlas of Victorian Wildlife.
