Hello all,

Thanks to all the birding-ausers who emailed about their concern with the proposed open cut coal mine in the Awaba Forest (Lake Macquarie, NSW). People asked what they could do to help.

Its still very early in the planning of the opposition to the mine. We're still deciding what approaches will be made but I'll let everyone know when plans are more concrete. I've put a section on my website (www.wildlifing.com) explaining a little about the proposed mine, the Awaba Forest and why it is so important to the Masked Owl in the area, besides the other issues. There are also some names and addresses of people that could be written to in objection to the mine. More will come later.

I'm off to New Zealand later this week and so will be away from email until the middle of December. Hopefully I'll have a few photographs to share with everyone when I get back.

Cheers and thanks

Mick Todd
