I too use AVG and on my work email (which I access via Thunderbird and POP) I get these attachments on nearly every incoming mail - for some reason not all of them. For personal mail (on Gmail or Hotmail) I get none as AVG only scans mail coming in via POP as far as I know.

Dear all,

Thank you very much to all who responded to my query.  In particular to
Ralph Reid.  I have AVG that is updated almost daily, so I spoke to the
technical people at Chariot Netconnect (my server) who told me that it was
simply a notification from AVG to say that the e-mail had been checked.
Curiously, these attachments only began very recently - but they are
definitely not harmful.

The tech person, said that I can remove it but I will leave that for some
time when I have nothing better to do.

Thanks again,
Shirley Cook
