Thanks for your comments, to answer a few if I may, as far as the distribution
maps go, excuse me if I don't put a lot of faith in them after the baza. A
check of the two atlases shows the range of this species has expanded slightly
since the early 80s, and that the distribution map records them not too far
from where we recorded them. I know outliers need to be checked though.
We based our identification on the following, we had Aust Ravens and Little
Crows around us for 10 days prior to this sighting, the 8 birds were in a
single flock and it was their call that first got our attention, impression of
size was of a larger corvid, flight was with a slower wingbeat with a deeper
stroke (than little Crow) giving a slight lumbering appearance, the tail was
broader than the Little Crows, and the call was noticeably different from both
of the other corvid species, not drawn out like A. Raven, short with occasional
repeated longer notes
