Philip Veerman's analysis of the Canberra Garden Birds is an
incomparable source of information.

But it is also interesting that the situation he described for Canberra is
supported by a similar but more limited survey of Brisbane garden
birds. Comparison of two surveys showed that in 1979/80 the
Pied Currawong was primarily a winter visitor to the western suburbs
of Brisbane but by 1999/2000 it had expanded into northern and
southern suburbs (very few records from the east) and, although
there was still a winter peak in records, it was now more regularly
reported from the summer months (Sunbird 34:49-57, 2004).

This doesn't really explain the large flock sizes reported by Jack and
there is clearly a lot more to learn about this species.
