Last weekend (7-8 May) we had another successful tree-planting weekend in the Capertee Valley (NSW). Four thousand trees and shrubs were planted on a beautiful property on Crown Station Road, as part of the Regent Honeyeater Recovery Project.

One of the great things about attending these plantings is getting to visit parts of the valley which would otherwise be inaccessible. At the site where we planted, Swift Parrots were heard briefly. We also had a male Hooded Robin furiously chasing Jacky Winters, Black-chinned Honeyeaters, Dusky Woodswallows and Mistletoebirds on site, huge numbers of Noisy Friarbirds calling and moving through, and at various times we had Wedge-tailed Eagles, Little Eagle, Australian Hobby and Brown Falcon flying over. I'm also pretty sure there was a flock of White-browed Woodswallows moving over at one stage, a bit unusual for this time of year.

On Sunday morning volunteers had the chance to do a tour of some of the previous planting sites, to see the results of their past efforts and how well things are coming along. We finished up with a visit to Glenowlan Bridge where everyone had great views of at least a dozen Regent Honeyeaters, putting on a great show hawking for insects, feeding on lerps and mistletoe nectar, calling constantly and generally being extroverts!

The next planting weekend will be 20-21 August - why not put it in your diary now.
