Hello all,
In February I wrote about a proposal to build a heliport at Capertee
from which the developer plans to operate regular helicopter joy
flights over the Capertee Valley (NSW). This of course would have
severe impacts on the peace and tranquility of the valley, and will
affect our birding experiences there. Some of you might have heard a
discussion about the issue on Radio National's Bush Telegraph last
month. I thought you might be interested in a brief update.
Due to the discovery that two different versions of the EIS were in
circulation, the application is now being re-exhibited together with
the corrected EIS which now has a noise supplement. What this means
is that, if you haven't already written a letter to Lithgow Council
expressing your views, YOU NOW HAVE ANOTHER CHANCE. The closing date
for submissions is now 10th June.
For anyone who wants to register their opposition but hasn't the time
to write anything, I have a form letter that I can send to you as an
RTF attachment. All you need to do is print it out, write your name
and address on it and send it to the council address. Better still
change it to include your own thoughts, or write your own letter.
Send to:
The General Manager
Lithgow City Council
PO Box 19
Lithgow NSW 2790
or email to (mark attention to General Manager).
On all correspondence, quote DA 22/05.
Thanks to everyone who has already written letters. The more I think
about this issue the more I believe that the natural soundscape is
worth a big effort to preserve against the ever-growing encroachment
of noise pollution, especially in our most revered places such as
this very special and exceptionally bird-rich valley.
Cheers
Carol
