Gedday all,

On Tuesday 12/4 and Wednesday 13/4 early mornings I was in the Box-Ironbark
forest around Chiltern in Honeyeater Dam/Cycanide Rd/Lancashire Gap Rd area.

Among the many honeyeaters there, I observed Swift Parrots very clearly on
three seperate occassions and also saw several small flocks (4-10) flying over
the tree tops at different times. The Swift Parrots in flight looked to have
pinkish colouring in the armpit and undertail coverts rather than red or
scarlet as shown in feild guides. I am wondering if they might be juvenilles or
immatures ?

The other surprise for me was the number of Noisy Friarbirds in that same area.
There seemed to be dozens of them there. On my previous visits there I hadn't
observed anything like this number. Other reports to this list mention large
numbers in NSW.

At Chiltern Valley Dam No.2 (on Chiltern Valley Rd), there were many Little
Friarbirds along with many Noisy Friarbirds.

Other than that good birds for me were Scarlet Robin and Buff-rumped Thornbill
on Skeleton Hill Track.

regards,
Jim Caine
