You have posed an interesting question and my records also have no
White-throated Needletail sightings for or very near Hamilton. In general
Needletails tend to feed over forest while the Forktails do not mind foraging
over savanna or even semi arid country. I did not think that Hamilton was such
a tree-barren place but maybe the needletails are more discriminating than
ourselves. Maybe the insects generated by the trees around Hamilton do not fly
and so do not attract aerial insectivores??

Good question. I hope someone can come up with a better suggestion than I have?

Cheers

Mike
