Thanks for the responses.   I don't believe we have water rats in the area -
I've only seen them elsewhere in fresh water, and am not sure of the range
of their habitats.   We certainly have Swamp Rats at various places in the
Sanctuary, but I've seen no evidence in this particular site.   The amount
of stones would be too much for something as small as the Swamp Rat, and
their favourite food seems to be fallen fruit of Avicennia marina and young
fronds of Mangrove Ferns.
