hi again
one lone straggler fork-tailed swift spotted at nive downs 40km north of
augathella sth central qld early on 23.12, the day after large flocks were
sighted independently in the area by myself and marc gardner.
on xmas day at least three separate flocks of varying numbers, two of
fork-taileds and one of white-throated needletails, were seen on the early
morning drive east from augathella to roma. mostly around mitchell, mungallala,
muckadilla and amby. quite large nos again but i was unable to make a count.
also one bustard east of amby and dozens of black kites en route.
the bustards on the old tambo rd north of nive downs appear to be resident. up
to a dozen dotted along the road there most days.
a highlight has been the healthy numbers of pink-eared ducks at four out of
five waterholes visited so far.
more details and a full list to follow once i unscramble notes.
happy new year all
