Dear Birders
Following a posting on this chat line for advice on what field
guides/info would be best for a 3 week trip to Tierra del Fuego and
Antarctica, I bought via Amazon
Complete Guide to Antarctic Wildlife - Hadoram Shirihai, illustrated by
Brett Jarrett. 2002. Beautiful but heavy hardcover book with excellent
info on the whole of Antarctica - really useful for Falklands and S
Georgia - sadly too big/heavy to take but well worth it for the detail.
Antarctica - a Guide to the Wildlife - Tony Soper illustrated by Davila
Scott, amended 2003 - a useful slender and light field guide for the
most likely to be seen birds and mammals.
Birds of Southern S America and Antarctica - de la Pena and Rumboll 1998
- good sized field guide with the basic info for all birds in Argentina,
Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay, S Brazil and S Bolivia, plus Antarctica. - to
give me what I need for the 3 stop overs I have - Ushuaia, Puerto Arenas
and Puerto Montt.
These from Amazon came to US$66.01 plus US$27.96 postage - Australian
$120.14.
And then with Rough Guide to Chile on hand, should be plain sailing!!
