Hi Ricki, I agree that Swifts must often be missed. I recall an occasion here in the western suburbs of Adelaide a few years ago, ahead of a storm front, when many Fork-tailed Swifts were swooping in circles fairly low over home. I was following them with binoculars, and by chance noticed specks above them. These were White-throated Needletails flying quite separately from the Fork-tails; well above them, and travelling in a near straight line towards the north. They would certainly not have been noticed without binoculars. Whilst on the subject, has anybody sighted Swifts in the Adelaide area this season yet? I have not seen any.
