I'd still suggest lice or parasites as the most likely explanation,
but perhaps its the equivalent of our saunas?  Maybe she just enjoys a
nice hot dust bath.  You're very lucky to have such friendly koels,
I've never heard of any cuckoos acting so boldly before.
