I saw an interesting sight while riding home from work today - a
mangrove bittern perched in the middle of a concrete culvert in
Greenslopes - several km from the nearest salt water habitat. I wasn't
aware that MBs frequented freshwater habitats, but then this was an
immature one, which may have been lost. The interesting thing is how
it got there, because I suspect that parts of that branch of Ekibin Ck
are covered between that point and the Brisbane River.
The other interesting thing was the jizz of the bird - looked a bit
like an crow perched in an odd position.
