Gedday all,
Yesterday I was on a not so regular amble around the Maribyrnong River upsteam
from the Canning St bridge and came across a lone male budgy feeding on grass
seed heads near the ford below the west end of Canning St (south side of the
river). Initially I was able to creep to within about 3 metres of it then it
flew off in some alarm and perched nearby in some river redgums on the river
bank. It remained perched and calling while I observed it for about 20 minutes
and only flew down when I departed the vicinity. When I re-approached, it flew
up into the trees again.
Given that it was on it's own and in an area adjacent to suburbia, I guess it
is probably an escapee. It's behaviour was somewhat more wary than what I might
expect for an escapee.
regards
Jim Caine
