Hi birdos

On the way from sydney to Adelaide, I stopped on the Hay Plains, and
saw a
bird that I have been unable to ID.

In general shape and size it resembled Apostlebird, but the bill was
longer
(more akin to Blackbird - forgive me, but i'm a UK Ex-pat!!). The
bill was
black, as were the lores. It was basically a mid-brown bird with
slightly
paler head, and darker well-streaked back and a plain dark tail.
It had an upright stance, spending 70% of its time on the ground where
it
moved with a rush, and peck movement. the rest of the time it was
perched
on top of small scrubby bushes. It did not call or sing whilst I was
there.

The closest I can get to in my old copy of Simpson and Day is possibly
Brown
songlark.....any thoughts?

Cheers

Tony
