Mike Carter now believes that the Canada Goose seen at Braeside Park is an
escapee, and not, like the only other Australian Canada Goose sighting a New
Zealand migrant.

Sightings

5 November
Stubble Quail were heard calling in the grasslands adjoining the northern
edge Guildford township. Thanks Micah Kawalek.

3 November
A single Blue-faced Honeyeater was seen flying over the intersection of the
Bendigo-Redesdale Road and Tannery Lane in Strathfieldsaye. Thanks Micah
Kawalek.

4 November
A pair of White-plumed Honeyeaters are nesting in a Boisdale garden, a very
unusual sighting for the area. Thanks Duncan Fraser.

4 November
A pair of Pink Robins in wonderful plumage at eye level at the Otway Fly
treetop walk at Beech forest. Thanks John Newman.

2 November
The Noisy Friarbird was still in north Beaumaris on 2nd November, after 16
days, but now feeding on red Callistemons rather than Mahogany Gums and
there was a Tree Martin at Elsternwick Park and Straw-necked Ibis were
flying over Hampton.

2 November
A Canada Goose was at Braeside Park. Thanks Nicole B.

2 November
White-bellied Cuckoo-shrike are currently numerous at Wartook State Forest
in the northern Grampians Range in western Victoria. There are also large
numbers of Rufous Songlark, White-winged Triller and nesting Restless
Flycatcher. Thanks Tim Dolby.

2 November
There were 4 Budgerigar on Bulban Rd, west of Werribee, and a Black Kite at
the You Yangs Regional Park in the western block. Thanks Richard Nowotny.

1 November
There was a Little Egret at Ricketts Point and seven Royal Spoonbills flew
in, a record number for Bayside. Thanks Michael Norris.

1 November
At least 41 White-fronted Terns feeding and loafing in the Corner Inlet
entrance area; includes non-breeding adult and immature birds. Thanks George
Appleby.

1 November
There were 3 Striated Fieldwrens in roadside shrubbery 2km south of township
of Clunes, in cleared farmland area consisting of mainly introduced pasture.
Also present were 2 male Brown Songlarks, and heard Singing Bushlark. Later
in day saw 2 Banded Stilt on small farm dam in Lal Lal, south of Ballarat,
and 2 Black Kite near Bacchus Marsh. Thanks Steve Davidson.

1 November
There were 25 Glossy Ibis on McGlashin Swamp, which is near Douglas in
Western Victoria. Thanks Roger McGlashan.

1 November
A single Peregrine Falcon was seen hunting low over First Avenue and
Kurrajong Crescent in Melton South. Thanks Micah Kawalek.

1 November
A Bassian Thrush at Warneet in bush beside the foreshore on edge of the salt
marsh. Fist sighting of this bird in this area since June 1998. Thanks Arnis
Dzedins.

Late October
A couple of records from Banyule Flat: Powerful Owl back again beside river
on Friday 29 October (found as usual by Lyn Easton); 4 White-necked Herons
gliding slowly ~130m overhead on evening of Monday 1 November, before one of
them was spectacularly harassed by a pair of Australian Hobbies, which
eventually forced it to plummet vertically into the swamp, where it was
subsequently joined by the other three, all sitting together (two on posts
and two in marsh) as if they'd meant to land there in the first place.

31 October
A Black-tailed Native-hen was foraging with Eurasian Coots on grass around
wetlands below the dam wall at the Yan Yean Reservoir Park. Thanks Michael
Ramsey.

30 October
Jells Park on a BAYBOCA outing, male White-winged Triller, Nankeen Night
Heron, several Yellow-tailed Black-Cockatoos, 2 Pink-eared Duck, 2 Darter,
White-necked Heron, Fan-tailed Cuckoo, Shining Bronze-Cuckoo and Horsfield's
Bronze-Cuckoo. Thanks Tania Ireton.

30 October
At the Western Treatment Plant: White-breasted Sea-Eagle (1, sub-adult) –
Lake Borrie Cape Barren Geese (2, nesting on top of bushes) – Lake Borrie
Freckled Duck (3) – on the usual rock in the southern pond nearest to the
gate in from Beach Rd (first FDs seen for some months), thanks Richard
Nowotny.

29 October
At the Western Treatment Plant, the Brolgas are still present in the usual
place and there's a pair of Banded Lapwings with chicks in a paddock along
Beach Rd. It's the second paddock from the Pt Wilson Rd and Beach Rd corner
towards Avalon. Thanks Ben Sinclair.

28 October
At Mentone beach on Thursday morning after the storms, there were 90 Pacific
Gulls amongst the hundreds of Silver Gulls checking through the washed up
seaweed and other things. Thanks Tania Ireton.

25 October
A single male Brown Songlark was seen on a roadside fence along Greigs Road
at Truganina, 200 metres west of the Hopkins Road intersection. Thanks Micah
Kawalek.

24 October
There was a report of a 'White-rumped Sandpiper' seen by a Stephen MacDonald
at the Woodlands Estate on 24 October, not seen since.

24 October
A single Latham’s Snipe was seen at the Borrow Pits at the Western Treatment
Plant. Thanks Richard Nowotny.

24 October
A breeding pair of Buff-banded Rails with at least 1 chick seen in the
Mullum Mullum Valley behind Whitefriars College, Donvale. Thanks David De
Angelis.

24 October
A pair of Peregrine Falcons was observed in aerial acrobats whilst calling
loudly over Kurrajong Crescent in Melton South. Thanks Micah Kawalek.
