Robert,
In summer, I would have said take chairlift to top station, walk up and then
across left to below Ramshead, follow path down to Dead Horse Gap and back
along Crackenback/Thredbo River to village:- chances of Brumbies, Flame
Robins, Crested Honeyeaters and Olive Whistler. White-eared H-E's and New
Hollands common along river, and the odd Gang-gang.
But October??
Try a drive west along Alpine Way to Tom Groggin - muck about,
fly-fish?(licence required), then on to Geehi Plains , same, plus
'Roos.Great scenery if wx good. If not enough, carry on to Khancoban and
surround, coffee at Motel.

Have a good trip,
Peter Madvig
