I have been observing the birds of my garden for the past 6 years from the
window beyond my computer screen as I am a pensioner, and have plenty of
time to observe the local wildlife.

During all that time, the only small birds I have seen in my garden are:-
House Sparrows
Grey Fantail
Willie Wagtail
New Holland Honeyeater

Most common birds are:-
Spotted Turtle-Dove
Crested Pigeon
Rainbow Lorikeet
European Blackbird
Red Wattlebird
Noisy Miner
Noisy Friarbird
Red-whiskered Bulbul
Pied Currawong
Australian Magpie
Grey Butcherbird
Long-billed Corella
Little Corella
Sulphur-crested Cockatoo
Red-rumped Parrot

Occasional visitors include:-
White-faced Heron
Crimson Rosella
Eastern Rosella
Laughing Kookaburra
Sacred Kingfisher
Channel-billed Cuckoo
Common Koel
Peregrine Falcon

As you can see, not a very big list, and not a single finch/robin/fairy-wren
or other small passerine. Yet I live within about 3km of the Nepean River
and the banks of the river teem with all the above, and most of the small
honeyeaters which live in Western Sydney.

There is a birdbath in the garden, along with Grevillia, a fruiting Loquat
tree, palm trees, silky oak, bottle-brush etc., and there are several very
large eucalypts in neighbouring yards. Sometimes I put out a handful of
birdseed to see what turns up to be photographed, sadly on most occasions
this turns out to be anything up to 30 Spotted Turtle-Doves, and a flock of
Rainbow Lorikeets.
