some near Selby in the Dandenongs.

Dear list,
I have been informed from a well-informed academic source that Barking
Owls were recorded along the Dandenong Valley Parklands in eastern
Melbourne in the past week. This to me seems an odd record, particularly
given the difficulty of identifying this bird by call in residential
areas (for obvious reasons). Apparently the bird was identified by the
"squealing-woman" call. Has anybody ever recorded this bird within
Melbourne suburbs and if so where? Regards Barry
