Koels are fairly quiet during the day here now but I was out last Thursday
for a pre-dawn run and in Bicenntennial Park in Glebe (inner Sydney)
heard what I took to be agonistic calling between 3 "pairs" of Koels.
Both males & females were calling but the males weren't using the
"koel" call. Why they would be behaving this is less than obvious to me.
Both Koel and Channel-bill behaviour is a mystery to me.

On the birds-in-movies thread, I saw "Secondhand Lions" on a plane
recently. It has has some semi-fantasy story-telling of African
adventures with Kookaburras in the sound-track - deliberately I expect
to give the atmosphere of old Tarzan movies.
