g'day all,
Sorry for delay posting this note, but it was stuck in my drafts folder...

I visited my friend armed with 4 Oz field guides and he identified his pair of birds as Terek Sandpipers
A bird I have not seen here, but were recorded some time ago here at Mount Isa by Peter Harris an earlier resident.

Another Guide I referred to was -
A Field Guide to the Waterbirds of Asia, (224 pages)
and published in 1993 by the Wild Bird Society of Japan

It is an excellent little book that includes all waterbirds other than Pelagics.
Unfortunately it is out of print and second hand copies rare.
I wish someone would publish a specialist Field Guide like this for OZ
One innovation is showing on two facing pages are colour illustrations of the birds in typical flight.

"The Field Guide to the Waders" by Condon and McGill and published by BOCA was popular but the 6th edition (the last ?) was published in 1974.
Another handy little 18 page Black & White booklet is " Quick Guide to some Waders of Moreton Bay" by Lynda Litz-Tyne  & Ian Venables and published 1996 by the Qld Ornithological Society (now Birds Queensland)
But off course colour illustrations would be better .. although costlier.

Regards
Bob Forsyth, Mount Isa, NW Qld.
