Just returned to Dubbo from a long drive back  from central Vic.

I made a rest stop at Gum Swamp near Forbes, central NSW (a must stop for those driving the Newell Highway).  There are numerous references to this wetland in the birding-aus archives, here's another probably saying almost exactly what all the others say.

Lots of ducks present including all the usual suspects - Black Duck, Wood Duck, Grey & Chestnut Teal, Hardhead, Musk & Blue-billed Duck, Australasian Shoveller, Pink-eared Duck and Freckled Duck.  I was only there 15 minutes and only really looked at the eastern (highway) end of the swamp.  I counted 20 Freckled Duck in this small area, all of which were associating with flocks of Pink-eared Duck.  Almost certainly there were more on other sections of the swamp.

Cheers
