I have just returned from two weeks in the Northern Flinders, a look in at
Mt Lyndhurst and we saw the Chestnut-breasted Whiteface and Thick-billed
Grasswren, the new owners are quite happy for people to "have a look" but
prior arrangements are necessary and a little gift is appreciated, I
travelled with a bee-keeper and they will be eating honey for months, hmmm.
We moved on to Mt Freeling and visited the site of the largest known colony
of Yellow-footed Rock-wallaby.
A couple of days later, some great sightings of Painted Finch, I have seen
the Northern birds before but these Flinders birds seemed much brighter,
maybe it was "just the pleasure" of seeing these birds closer to home.
We passed through lots of Triodia where my mate has seen "Striated
Grasswrens" before they became "Short-tailed", but this trip they were not
to be found.
Very few feral goats seen and many km at 3 to 5 kph, most days about 15 km
covered, three punctures and lots of beautiful country, plants and birds.
