Unfortunately I was busy all day today
and missed the successful release of
the Swift Parrot that came into Blue Mts WIRES care
a few days ago.

The bird was taken back to the Nepean Hospital grounds (Penrith)
and released to join over 20 !! swifties that were lerping
in the gums there today..

By a lucky coincidence, Debbie Saunders, Swifty Recovery co-ordinator
was up in Sydney to give a talk to CBOC, and was present at the release,
which will certainly give her some recent data for her presentation.
(And a new swifty site for western sydney).

The bird, an adult female, 55 grams, suffered concussion from a presumed
window strike and then was then mobbed to the ground by noisy miners
and sustained some facial injuries.
Big thanks to Blue mountains birding guru Carol Proberts who spent a
huge amount of her valuable time to confirm the location of the Swifties
at Penrith.

The WIRES team of Cath Morton-Evans, Jill Dark & Lynda Holmes
were a relieved bunch when "their bird" shot off like a proverbial bullet
to join her chums. Chased again by the miners, but this time, at full strength
had the speed and agility to avoid them.

A lot of time and effort went into this tiny bird
but as the saying goes
"its better to light a small candle
than to complain about the dark."
