Never mind Peter ... I'm pretty sure in my
formative birding years (early 80s) I tentatively identified a Spotted
Turtledove as a Wompoo Pigeon in the outer eastern 'burbs of Melbourne -
fortunately there was no internet then, I didn't really know any birders at that
point, and thus I didn't share my joy with the rest of the world.
It takes time and practice to build up your skills
and knowledge base. I have to admit I got a laugh out of Tony's post but don't
be put off!
Your new philosophy will stand you in good stead,
by the way.
