Hi All,

Yesterday we finally identified a White-fronted Tern (WFTE) during our
weekly sandbanks survey. This will be a bit passé for southerners, but WFTE
are pretty special for Queenslanders. They appear occasionally at Buckley's
Hole, southern end of Bribie Island, 30km south of Caloundra. However, it's
a rarity on the Caloundra sandbanks.

The individual was between juvenile and immature. We didn't see it land, and
it didn't fly during the afternoon. But we had plenty of time to learn
something about this species about which we know so little.

Cheers,

Jill
