Many thanks indeed for the many replies to my RFI re Southern France.

The consensus is overwhelmingly in favour of the

Collins Bird Guide, as the top field guide, with
A Birdwatching Guide to France South of the Loire by
J. Crosier, publ. Arlequin Press, and
Finding Birds in Southern France by David Gosney,
publ.Gostours and avaiable from RSPB also recommended.

The major site is the Carmargue; La Crau and Petites
Alpilles are also near Arles. The Causse Mejean/Gorges du Tarn, N of
Montpelier, worth a visit as well.
                       The Pyrenees for vultures.

                        www.birdguides.com a helpful site.

                                     Cheers
                                          Michael
